How many of us have been glued to the TV screen, watching the leaderboard of our favorite sport on ESPN? Or are completely addicted to gaining points, badges or what have you on those Facebook games? Just think about how much time you invested in actually playing these games and watching these scores. Don’t you wish some of your sales reps could put this same amount of energy and dedication into their work?
Now with gamification applications sales managers can bring this addicting world of gaming and competition to the office. I’m sure you’re scratching your heads going, “gamifi” what? Basically gamification means applying game mechanics (or game-like features) to otherwise non-game processes. So instead of just announcing how many meetings you got this week to your coworkers (as we like to do at Vorsight), now with software like the type Hoopla Software offers, your meetings can be displayed on a leaderboard-type screen. What this does is engage your reps and drive motivation. No one wants to see a low number or “score” on the leaderboard. You’re going to work that much harder to get higher numbers to impress those who will see you physically go up the ranks on screen.
